How To Install Carpet Padding
|
The carpet padding is important as it can make the carpeting more comfortable and more durable. It is important that you give same attention for selecting correct carpet padding as you will give for selecting new carpet. Carpet padding is required to increase life of your valuable carpet. It is advisable to follow the guideline given by carpet manufacture for selection of padding as it should not affect your carpet warranty. There are different types of carpet padding available in market today mainly PRIME URETHANE, FROTHED POLYURETHANE, REBOUND and FELT FIBER. Also check the thickness and density of your carpet padding depending on your traffic and insulation. Before installing carpet padding first check the flooring, if it is wooden panel or board flooring make the surface even by filling any dent or holes. Check for any loose board or panels and fasten it. Clean the surface of dust and dirt. Make the surface as smooth and clean as possible. It is important to have clean, smooth and even surface before you install carpet padding. Once the floor is ready, tackless strip will have to be installed for your carpet to attach to it. Tackless strip can be stapled or glued. Gluing is recommended only if you have cement or masonry floor. Please select law volatile organic compound glues as they are less hazardous and does not pollute air. Install tackless strip around the perimeter of your room except in front of your doorways. Make sure that tackless strip should be half inch from the wall and tack points or pins should be facing the wall. Ensure that strips meet all corners. Install the underlay strips from one end to another. Put staples every 6-8 inches running from the inside of the tackless strip at one end of the room to the other. Lay the underlay strips parallel to each other with their edges butting against each other (but not overlapping). Take carpet pad, Cut the carpet pad to roughly the right size and trim the pad little short of the tackless strip. It is necessary as when you stretch the carpet at time of installing carpet padding should not ride up on to tackless strip. You will lay the padding waffle side up and staple the edges about every six inches when you lay down carpet padding pieces they should be butted together properly so they are not on top of each other. Cover the seams of the pad with duct tape as to prevent from shifting under the carpet It's time to lay the carpeting. |
