It is great rewarding experience when you are doing the task of installing a carpet yourself but obviously installing wall to wall carpeting isn't a job that everyone wants to take on, for it can be surely tedious and messy. Some hard labor and planning along with some specialized tools which are available on rent can certainly make the installations of carpet by you possible. So in this way you save some money and go in for other better grade of carpet.

The big question how to install carpet can be answered by dividing the steps in six broad steps: Getting ready, Laying the under pad, Laying the carpet, Seams, Attaching the carpet and Finishing up,

The first step begins with collecting the following: tack-less strips, stapler, hammer, utility knife or carpet knife, chalk line, measuring tape, stair tool, work gloves and safety glasses. Arrange for the following rental tools also Knee kicker, Power stretcher, Seam cutter, Seaming iron, Seam tape, Wall trimmer, Strip cutter and Seam roller.

Now firstly remove the old carpet. You need to prepare the room by making sure the floor is clean and clear of anything that can damage your new carpeting. It's also a good idea to take off the doors so it will be easier to move the carpet into the room.

Vacuuming properly the old carpet will remove maximum dust, and now with the help of utility knife cut the carpet into strips approximately 3 to 4 ft wide. Starting from one end pull the carpet completely off the tack-less strips and roll it up in sections. On contrary of the views of some people that they can reuse the existing underlay, it generally too gets torn. Do not remove the tack-strips. Now it is time for installing new tack-less strips around the perimeter of the room (except in front of doorways) 1/2 inch from the wall. Make sure the strips meet at the corners and the tacks are pointing towards the wall.

At corners, ensure that the tack-less strips are butted tightly against each other but do not overlap each other. Put your carpet underlay in strips and staple it in place. Make sure to trim away the excess under pad along the inside edge of the tack-less strips and use duct tape to seal the seams, so that the tacks are exposed. Even use a small bead of glue on concrete floors to hold the pad in place.

Now after measuring your room at its longest point add at least 4 inches to that measurement. Layout and Mark the back of your carpet on both edges with that measurement and join the two marks with a chalk line and then using a utility or carpet knife cut the carpet to length. It is he time to bring the carpet into the room, roll it out and "dry fit" it. If your room is wide enough then you're going to need another piece of carpet need not worry, follow the same process with the second piece also- measure, mark and trim. After bring the carpet into the room and place so that it overlaps the existing piece by about 2 inches. make sure the grain of the carpet is running the same way. With the help of a seam cutter cut through both pieces of carpet (at the same time). Put the piece of seaming tape under the two pieces of carpet centrally. Apply adhesive, to melt it slowly run a heated seam iron over it so that edges join. You can put some weight onto the seam until the adhesive has dried. Drive your knee with force towards the padded end by putting the knee kicker so as to attach the carpet to the tackles strips. This will basically stretch the carpet over the tack-less strip, so that it grabs and hold it in place. You will trim along the wall with an edge trimmer. Now fix the carpet on the opposite side of the room using the power stretcher .as earlier trim away any excess; then, using the stair tool tuck the carpet under the exposed baseboard.

Now trim the carpet at the doorway, install a door edge, and install the shoe molding on the baseboard. Finally praise your self for the fabulous work.
